Hey everyone,

Sam Altman gave a nice interview where he shares how he uses ChatGPT in his daily life. Good excuse for me to see how someone at the forefront of AI actually applies it!

Here's what I found:

1. Writing Buddy: Sam uses ChatGPT as a writing aid, but not in the way you might think. He doesn't use it to write entire pieces for him. Instead, it's more like a super-smart thesaurus. When he's stuck on phrasing or can't find the right word, he turns to ChatGPT for suggestions. He also using it to clean up voice notes.

With the advanced voice mode rolling out, dictating your thoughts then have AI polish them up will be the new cool.

2. Idea Sparring Partner: Sam sees ChatGPT as a collaborator for bouncing around ideas. It's not about replacing his thinking, but enhancing it. He uses it to explore different angles on a topic he's considering.

3. Quick Drafts: While Sam doesn't rely on ChatGPT for final content, he does use it to get quick drafts or outlines. This helps him organize his thoughts before diving into the real writing process.

What stands out to me is how Sam uses ChatGPT as a tool to amplify his thinking, not replace it. He's not looking for AI to do the heavy lifting of idea generation or deep analysis. This is a counterpoint of people using it to blast us with AI generated content even if I can understand the value to it. After all, who would not use this tech when your work is to write thousands of SEO/products content pages?

Sam Altman’s approach is balanced, doesn’t overhype AI’s capabilities, and surprises me: the man proclaiming AI as a major world shift downplays (?) its usage for himself.

Sam
