Google DeepMind: Millions of New Materials Discovered
While LLMs take much of the media space, AI is actively transforming many industries. In this case, In this case, it found 52,000 new layered compounds similar to graphene that could revolutionize electronics with the development of superconductors. In total, their AI tool found 2.2 million new crystals, impressive. MORE
Vitalik: My techno-optimism
A long and well-written piece sharing thoughts about AI, alignment, and how humans could retain their agency over superintelligent systems. It feels sci-fi but the right questions are asked even if you don’t share the solutions - dump your brain in a computer anyone? MORE
Google’s Gemini: Looks Remarkable, But It’s Still Behind OpenAI
You might have seen the incredible demo video of Gemini. While the video itself says it has been edited to cut latencies, it’s a bit more than that. TWITTER | BEHIND-THE-SCENE
Microsoft: The Power Of Prompting
This study presents another argument against fine-tuning your model too early. It shows that you can get a lot of performance by working hard on your prompt. Here they get top results without resorting to special fine-tuning on medicine challenges. MORE | ARXIV
Datasette Enrichments: a new plugin framework for augmenting your data
Another great tool from Simon Willson, this plugin makes it super easy to run prompts against a dataset and save the results for each row. Using GPT4-vision, it can even extract informations from images. MORE | YOUTUBE
Meta: Seamless Communication
They created two new models based on their latest foundational SeamlessM4T V2: SeamlessExpressive that preserves expression and tone of speech across language and SeamlessStreaming that delivers translation with around two-seconds latency. I bet that within 10 years, language barriers will no longer exists with real-time portable translation tools. MORE | DEMO
Protomaps: A Free and Open Source Map of the World
These maps are deployable as a single static file on cloud storage. The technology is smart and it can reduce your mapping bills from hundreds per month to pennies. MORE | GITHUB
