MC.1: GPT-4 Podcasts, Meta AI Breakthroughs, Gen. images with seamless text-integration, Streamlining Notes ✨
This week, we cover GPT-4's use in a podcast experiment, the Meta AI's latest publication, the launch of Ideogram and my approach to proactive note-processing. Also don't miss the explanation of the famous Postgres iceberg meme.
modern chaos issue 1 - generated by Ideogram.ai
Modern chaos is a newsletter exploring tech and AI through the journey of a dev agency shifting from services to product design. We share our notes, analysis and experiments.
Hey there!
Welcome to the very first issue of Modern Chaos. Think of this as our adventure diary where we'll share our experiments toward building products and cool stuff we find along the way.
The format follows the great newsletter from Daniel Messer, Unsupervised Learning.
Let me know what works and what doesn’t!
Super excited to see where this takes us. 🚀

How I systemize my note taking process
I felt overwhelmed by the frenetic pace of tech news. Hours would fly by as I devoured the latest updates, yet I'd wrap up my day or week with this realization: I hadn't truly absorbed a thing. This post is my take on turning daily insights into shared knowledge using iOS Shortcuts as my entry point. READ IT
The Thrill of a New Phone Without Buying One
Had a fun discovery recently! My partner and I swapped our phone cases for new ones with different colors and textures. It felt like we had brand new devices. It’s a little neuroscience hack: our brains love novelty. Want a mini tech-refresh without the cost? Try a new phone case. A simple case swap might just reignite that initial smartphone excitement. Give it a whirl next time you're itching for an upgrade!

Generative Images with Seamless Text Integration
Ideogram has launched, and the best part? It's completely free. I used their service to craft the Modern Chaos logo and to whip up some illustrations for a blog article. The results? Impressive! IDEOGRAM
GPT-podcast
Matt Shumer conducted a cool experiment using GPT-4 to create a fictional podcast transcript, paired with ElevenLabs' voice-cloning technology. This resonated with me because, 5 years ago, we embarked on a similar startup journey: transforming written text into audio content. While it's still not a cheap option, the technology is certainly up to par. TWITTER | Jupyter Notebook
Dead simple LLaMA 2 fine-tuning
Another gem from Matt. It built a notebook that makes it dumb simple to fine-tune LLaMA 2. Load a dataset and run it. TWITTER | Google Collab
Seamless Communication - Meta AI
Meta has made a major leap in both speech-to-speech and speech-to-text translation and transcription. It can handle close to 100 languages for both speech and text input, produces text in 100 languages, and offers speech output in 35 languages (English included). Superb! META | DEMO
A Python framework for solving tasks by StandfordNLP
DSPy unifies techniques for prompting and fine-tuning LMs as well as improving them with reasoning and tool/retrieval augmentation. The days of hacky prompts are counted. GITHUB
Ollama: run LLamA 2 and other large language locally
Ollama is an open-source tool for running large language model on your Mac. No fuss, super simple. It’s nice to be able to check the capabilities of LLMs on its hardware. GITHUB
The Legendary Postgres iceberg meme explained
Even after 10+ years of using Postgres, we still find ourselves far from hitting the bottom of the iceberg…lucky us. Thanks @avestura
